Overview:
The Omni is designed for the Bass Player looking for upright bass performance characteristics, as well as for upright bassist looking for a more portable performance partner. With its familiar 34 inch bass guitar scale, the bass uses identical fingering to that of the conventional bass guitar, yet delivers dynamic new plucked and bowed sounds for the serious bass guitarist seeking an expanded expressive range. This radical electric bass combines the tonal purity of the acoustic upright with the awesome power of the full-blown electric, resulting in the most versatile bass on the market today.

From punchy, percussive attack to smooth, singing sustain, the CR Omni Bass’s exclusive Polar piezo pickup is the only system that allows the bassist to control the attack and decay of the plucked string. EMG™ magnetic pickups add classic electric sounds. The on-board pre-amp, EQ, and mixer allow the player full control of this wide tonal palette right from the instrument.

The fingerboard also features the TransRadius™ profile. For a left-hand feel which is familiar to the experienced bass guitarist, the radius at the nut is 9-1/4 inches. At the end of the fingerboard near the bridge, however, the radius is just 2 inches, large enough to maintain good string-to-string articulation with the bow, yet still comfortable for pizzicato (plucked/picked) style. The asymmetrical fingerboard relief facilitates an even ‘growl’ from the higher strings and a clear, powerful lower register.The solid maple body and neck, together with the graduated fingerboard, deliver a rich, full tone that rings true for every note. The adjustable bridge and two-way truss rod allow for low, fast action, or for higher string settings that encourage the traditional acoustic player to ‘dig in’ with gusto. NS Electric OMNI Bass Strings and standard bass guitar strings fit the OMNI Bass, adding unlimited set up options for musicians who want to explore and create their own unique sound.

The Boomerang™ Strap System is standard with the OMNI Bass. Two articulated arms and a pivoting hub allow full mobility on stage or in studio. The comfortable Boomerang strap fits over the shoulder just like a guitar, but the adjustable arms allow the instrument to be placed in virtually any position in relation to the hands and body. The Boomerang Strap System allows full mobility for either bowing or plucking.

Overview:
The RADIUS Bass Guitar embodies a breadth of experience, insight, and design brilliance which only Ned Steinberger can bring to the creation of a new classic. His approach to the RADIUS, as with every new instrument, was to re-explore each facet of a bass guitar, leading to innovations such as the Fusion neck, the Diradial™ body design, the NS tuning system, and the NS/EMG™ pickup system. However, what makes this instrument most remarkable is its seamless integration of feature, form and function.

NS Fusion Neck

The RADIUS features a bolt-on one-piece maple neck with continuous carbon fiber reinforcement and steel double-action reinforcing truss rod. This combination has the natural feel of wood, but the core provides enhanced sustain and definition to each note. The fingerboard has a 15″ radius, and a 34” scale. Heavy conventional tuning machines are replaced by an aluminum headplate with ball-end string mounting slots. The tuning system is integrated into the body.

NS Diradial™ Body

The RADIUS’s maple body, with flamed maple top, has a concave back radius, which provides enhanced contact and stability against the torso. The front of the instrument is more tightly radiused, which, in combination with the general wedge shape of the body, shifts it into more comfortable orientation with the right hand. The distinctive horn provides a natural grip, and the configuration of the body cutaway provides easy access to the highest frets.

The instrument as a whole is perfectly balanced, no downward dip of the neck, giving left hand unprecedented freedom. Combined, the shape, balance and light weight of the RADIUS, makes this instrument exceptionally comfortable to play.

NS Patented Tuning System (US Pat. # 7,485,785)

The RADIUS has a selfclamping, precision tuning machine, built into the body. This fast, simple system accepts any standard single-ball end, full-scale bass guitar string. No tools are needed: simply rotate the knurled knob to change a string or tune the instrument.

NS/EMG™ Integral Pickup System

NS Design and EMG have collaborated to create this integrated piezo and magnetic pickup system. It features an 18V onboard preamp, which provides extraordinary dynamic headroom. The active electronics are combined with the NS bridgemounted Polar™ pickup system, the marriage of which puts an exceptionally broad, musically rich spectrum of tone at the player’s fingertips.

Controls and Adjustments

The controls on the RADIUS bass give the player full ability to shape and mix the magnetic and piezo output: Master Volume, active Treble cut/boost, active Bass cut/boost, rotary magnetic/piezo pickup blend, 3-position magnetic pickup selector switch, and 3-position piezo EQ switch.

Bridge and Saddle

The aluminum one-piece bridge and saddle assembly provide full height and angle adjustment, allowing the player to precisely tailor the action and tweak the intonation.

Gig Bag

The RADIUS bass guitar includes a deluxe padded gig bag with a handle, adjustable backpack straps and a large front zipper pocket with room for cables and gear. The loaded gig bag will fit in the overhead compartment of most commercial aircraft.

Prototype Original NS “Bass Cello”

This instrument meets the same high standard for playability and tonal response that are embodied in all NS instruments.

The NS Design Prototype Bass Cello was built circa 2005. With a 34" scale and a 4ths tuning of E-A-D-G-C, the project ultimately transformed into the NS Omni Bass. This is one-of-a-kind collectable instrument. A letter of authentication from NS Founder Ned Steinberger is included with the purchase. The instrument also includes Steinberger's signature on the backplate.

The CRM Series Electric Upright Bass, with its exceptional versatility and tone quality, is an indispensable tool for a wide range of bassists. The lean, solid-body CRM Series bass takes its place in a long history of fine instruments crafted in the Czech Republic.

EMG™ magnetic pickups expand the range to include classic electric bass sounds. These low-impedance EMG pickups incorporate individually adjustable coils and neodymium magnets. Each coil is buffered separately for a full sound quality with very low noise.
The CRM Series neck and body are made from select maple.
The full scale fingerboard is graduated for consistent response from note to note, with adjustable relief and bridge height to suit all playing styles.
Our Polar™ Bridge Pickup System combines great sound with directional sensitivity, for a rich and expressive response to arco and pizzicato technique.
