An award-winning cellist who began training on the violin at the age of 4 before switching to the cello at 7. At 28, he has performed as a soloist with The Chicago Symphony, The Illinois Symphony, and as a chamber and orchestral musician has performed at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, San Miguel Allende Festival in Mexico, Carnegie Hall, and on WQXR Radio Chicago, but this is only half the
story.
In 2002 Jun joined Gotham Five, a group of like-minded classically trained virtuoso musicians, formed as a performing ensemble and studio band creating backing tracks for Hip Hop productions. (Recorded for solo artist MYA on her album “Moodring”). In 2004 Jun formed the experimental duo Sferex with percussionist, Simon Boyar. Sferex was an unrelenting mélange of genres incorporating pieces of classical, metal, gypsy, and electronica into their performances. His current solo work is not only a culmination of everything Jun has worked on up to this point, it is forward thinking, fresh and most importantly unique pulling from influences as wide reaching as Squarepusher and Aphex Twin to Bach and Vilvaldi. Jun has created a dizzying mix of live instrumental and electronic improvisation with his feet planted firmly both in classical and electronica frameworks.
